Ten. I managed ten after a long, long day in university. But ten is more than zero. Ha!

My character fell out of a tree today.
And I'm excited about hitting the 30,000 word mark soon! Took me two writing sessions today to hit the 1000 word mark, even though it's a spot I really like... maybe it's because I've written that scene before two or three times. I started writing the whole story new and chronologically, because I got confused and muddled. I also revised my Outline for the whole book. I'm at Outline 8 at the moment. It's still early and I could keep on writing, but I think I'll treat myself to reading "Eden" by Stanislaw Lem in German instead.
Also, I left off at a fun spot and am looing forward to continue writing tomorrow? Maybe I'll manage 1172 words and it'll be 30 000...! Yay!

I was too lazy yesterday to cycle to my organic store, so I have to survive Sunday with no fresh greens and only a few apples and onions on hand.
We have a sandwich toaster, but as I avoid eating cheese the options for me to use it are quite slim. I did have an onion sandwich with some flocked yeast and (vegan) margarine - in the desperate hope of emulating melted cheese flavour!
But a while before I decided to live as vegan as possible, my brother was a vegan and I made him an apple sandwich when he came a-visiting. Back then it was with honey, as he wasn't strict about that yet (and I'm not either).
Anyway, I took it a step further today with Cinnamon and AgaveSirup. The "recipe" is so simple that I feel stupid even posting it...
1 apple
4 slices of toast
Agave sirup
Cinnamon
Slice the apple really fine and put onto two pieces of toast. Drip agave sirup on, sprinkle with cinnamon. Top each with another piece of toast. Stick into your sandwichtoaster, force it shut and wait for it to be done. The filling is really hot though when it comes out, so be mindful of not burning your tongue!
I guess you could also mix the agave sirup, the apples (perhaps even grate them?) and the cinnamon before you put the ingredients on the toast. My friend (Pfefferminztea actually) also suggested using (vegan) sugar instead of agave sirup or honey. But perhaps the toasts wouldn't stick together as well.
As to toasts, I admit I don't know much about vegan or unvegan toast. My boyfriend is the one to buy it, I just snag what I need from him.
This is a yummy treat. Sweet sandwiches, mhmm.

Hurray for a character taking revenge!
And I am totally in love with this: www.journey-quest.com.
I'm against female oppression but I fear I have a thing for strong, green, leader-types, with scars on their noses types. *sighs* I adore that Orc.
Journey Quest is created by Dead Gentlemen Production - the same guys that produced The Gamers and
The Gamers: Dorkness Rising.
These three definitely have been sweetening my day!
Can't wait till Tuesday - that's when the next Episode of Journey Quest will be aired on the site!

How do you balance Universtiy and your hobby of Writing? Well, you have time to surf and watch TV. (I hope, as I'm barely in the beginnings of studies) It's more a question of making time and for some, to set regular goals. How important Writing really is and how impassioned you really are. If you have a goal, stop saying "someday". Motivate yourself to keep on working towards that dream every day.
If you don't reach your daily goal of say 1000 Words a day, don't bog yourself down by saying that you have to catch up on that. It's useless cluttering. Start afresh every day and don't regret "wasting" a day. I know I really need those days. But in my opinion there has to be balance. Too much time on not working towards your dreams can bog you down too.
Balance, however sounds to me too... unflexible. As little as every day is the same, my needs are different. What's hard to me, is to shift my habits, my balance from a short-term need of unchallenging past-times (TV, surfing for nothing particular) back to productiveness.
On hard days of - in my case cleaning, cooking, walking the dog - or, coming soon, classes with large gaps in to fit chores and homework inbetween, I feel proud of myself for sitting down at the computer and after a bout of surfing tearing myself away and writing a few words. If it's only two or three hundred, I still got myself out of the stupor to do it.
And think of it - a 1000 words a day. If a novel is approximately a 60,000 words, you can be done in as little as two months. Twilight was written in two months. Well, the first draft :)
But I've been concentrating so much on having to write - turning on my computer and trying too - that I've felt deprived of reading lately. I was appalled at what a slow start I had with The Squire's Tale by Margaret Frazer. I've made up for it though by spending one whole day reading. That was needed... though I wrote a little on that day too. For more reading time, I'm actually hoping for the Tram Rides to and from the University.
I'll see how it works out... soon!

Yes, I'm one of those people who says they want to write a book. And I'm one of those people who've never finished a story. But I won't let that stop myself from trying! In fact, I've been sticking with the story I'm working on now for a long time.
The original idea, or rather the central element came to me with some inspiration provided by my younger brother while walking the dog. For I'm not someone who is big in to character. It's a weakness and I'm working and thinking hard to fix it! As I'm a Science-Fiction and Fantasy lover it's the alternative universe technology, social structures and worlds stories play in that grip me. That I want to know more of.
After the original idea for a story element, nothing much usually happens - I wait for the next cool idea after I describe in detail the first one. I said I wanted to be a writer, but I wasn't working towards my dream, like many. The kick in the butt was the thesis I had to write for graduating from my type of school. I decided that my topic would be "Writing A Novel" and that I would, well, write a novel.
But my teacher reigned me in quite early: "Stop, stop!" she yelled. "A snippet of the story in the Appendix is quite fine with me." So the thesis was turned in, I got full marks, and after a too long break and reading Leading a Literary Life by Carolyn Keene I'm back on track and more so than during my actual thesis writing. I have a goal. A (technically) unfailing five year plan, which has the book I'm working on as a centerpiece - may it be published or unpublished (more likely), it has to be actually done when I launch the first phase after I finish my BA.
Anyway, following Carolyn Keene's advice halfway, I've set my goal to a thousand words a day. I've only missed one day so far, when savoring the feeling of "It may be crap, but the first third is done."
And I'm planning to keep an update of how much I write every day.

Jahhh... endlich mal wieder ein Themenkuchen! :D "Findet Nemo" füttert meine Familie schon lange mit Zitaten, die wir uns immer wieder gegenseitig um die Ohren schlagen... Man beachte die Glücksflosse!
/ :D I love this new theme-cake. "Finding Nemo" is a classic in this household, despite the fact that none of its members are younger than 16 anymore.

/ This was one of my arts projects, but I soon noticed that it might well depict the heroine of the book series I was reading then, the Ayla books by Jean M. Auel. The protagonist should be blonde, but she has a "tame" cave lion whom she raised having found him as a small cub, and who lived with her for a while.

Over the past week, whenever I showed people the 500 page book I was reading, everybody thought I was reading a "Dune"- Novel. This was not the case, as the Subject of my blog indicates! I have HUGELY enjoyed reading this biography. I admit that I do not read biographies very often, but I feel this was a very good book. As the Biography was written by his son Brian Herbert, it provided much insight and detail. Not only the genius of his father, is described, but also the annoying character traits and his weaknesses together with his strengths. Though the book was subtitled "A Biography of Frank Herbert" it felt more like a family epic this helped penetrating the fog surrounding the author.
I was very touched by the novel and am thankful towards the author for revealing so much of himself and his family.
